Michael Kokoska was born in 1891 in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Majdalena (nee Priban) Kokoska. Michael had to register for the draft and then subsequently voluntarily enlisted.
Very little was known about Michael's service in World War I beyond what was listed on his grave. It took many months to piece together his story.
